It's Time to Bake the Cookies

We've been in doors to save ourselves from the sweltering heat.  The temperature was over 100 degrees yesterday and they say it will be more of the same today.  As you can imagine we've all been going a little stir crazy so I had to think of something we haven't done yet and quick! I began to think about our goals for this summer, one of mine I hadn't tackled yet was to bake cookies.  AH-HA! The kids love cookies and helping in the kitchen.

As they were eating their lunch I brought up my idea about making cookies.  They were all smiles, because really who doesn't love a cookie, right??  We talked about maybe making it an ongoing thing we would do over our summer break.  Maybe we bake a batch of cookies a week for the rest of the summer?

As we were discussing our ideas A ran over to the cookbooks and pulled out her favorite and started marking the pages with little bits of paper, J and C joined her.  I pulled more books out, but because the kids seemed to be focusing on this one book we decided to put the others back on the shelf.  This is a favorite in our house and is used often - the Nestle Toll House Best Loved Recipes.

We found our's at Costco many years ago, but you can find a copy here.

We are going to follow a different cookie recipe for the next seven weeks.

We went through the entire book focusing on cookies and bars and made our choices.

Weeks 1 - 7:
  1. Original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies
  2. Pumpkin Spiced and Iced Cookies
  3. Mini Chip Snowball Cookies
  4. Oatmeal Scotchies
  5. Milk Chocolate Florentine Cookies
  6. Rocky Road Bars
  7. Caramel Oatmeal Chewies
Once the choices were made we had to decide on a name for this little series of cookie making.  We started to throw out our ideas but no one was feeling very creative except J who kept saying crazy things such as Nuts or no Nuts!,  Chocolate Dog Friday!  Oooh Kay??????  Then A started to cry because she couldn't think of anything.  Oh yes, it's always a good time at our house.  ~sigh~  So the decision must be mine.

Welcome to Cookie Friday!

P.S. Please do not be jealous of my creative mind.
